A prototype assembly trial may have been produced for function testing or appearance evaluation. Separate these objectives. A sample that fits the assembly should not be assumed to be suitable in a working condition that has not yet been tested.
Make explicit clauses in writing prior to the mass production decision. The scope of the statement "Number approved" should be the same for both parties, whether it is the model, the material, the specific measurements, or the entire set of documents.
Freeze the revision, don't block the change path
Let the original part code and revision be obvious to the production. When a change is needed, let it be explained which order or party the new file will be valid from. The old and new parts do not mix, but require more than just changing the file name.
